This park is healing but slowly. Beautiful park with much scars from the fires still. Bring water for the dogs though as the creek doesnt look healthy to let them drink out of. Nice trails. Costs $5 to get in.
This park is well run and has great facilities. Even after the fire six years ago it is still pretty. The park no longer has a lake because the dam collapsed. Not all the trails are opened due to fire damage and restoration areas, but one can still get in a decent hike. I did not give 5 stars because I was not impressed with the campsites. The sites were small and too close together. The park was packed.
Really enjoyed participating in the Eclipse programming they had at the park! It's sad to see how many trees have been on fire in there. Such a great and kind ranger service. They were friendly and made us feel so smart and at home there. Thank you for a nice experience.
This park is recovering nicely from the fires of 2011. The formerly barren trails have scrub oaks and pines of about 8 feet in height. The camp grounds are in great shape and the hiking trails are totally awesome. The trails that escaped fire damage are beautiful with ferns and impossibly tall pines. I plan on going back and camping again soon
This is one of the best state parks in Texas. It is set in the Lost Pines area and, if you are a cyclist, it has one of the best roads in the area - Park Road 1C. It also has a large swimming pool. The staff are very nice and welcomed us during Hurricane Harvey.
